I have been fascinated by mountains since I was young. Living in perhaps the flattest country in the world, mountains are always special to Dutch people because we do not have them ourselves. Mountains are so rugged, so big and unpredictable, so beautiful and powerful. I cannot get enough of it and I’m completely in my element when I’m hiking in the mountains, smell the fresh air and watching all those summits. When the weather changes, the light changes and so does the mood. This can be very intense in the mountains. You feel very small and vulnerable and therefore very alive, with those high peaks looking down on you. Mountains come in so many different shapes and sizes, they are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. One thing is for sure, mountains will never bore me. The shots in this gallery are from Spain, Iceland, Spitsbergen, Switzerland and Scotland.
